Nuckolls scores 23 as Portland defeats Washington State 74-68 in West Coast Conference Tournament

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Garrett Nuckolls had 23 points and Portland beat Washington State 74-68 on Friday night in the second round of the West Coast Conference Tournament.

No. 9 seed Portland advances to play No. 5 seed San Francisco on Saturday in a third-round matchup.

Nuckolls added six rebounds for the Pilots (15-18). Joel Foxwell totaled 17 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Jermaine Ballisager Webb finished with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Aaron Glass had 19 points and five assists to pace the eighth-seeded Cougars (12-20). ND Okafor added 12 points and six rebounds, while Eemeli Yalaho pitched in with 11 points and six rebounds.

Nuckolls scored 17 points in the second half to help Portland rally from a 29-25 deficit at halftime.

Hawkeyes are set to play Vanderbilt in a November women’s basketball game in Sioux City, Iowa

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — Vanderbilt and Iowa, both ranked in the top 10 late last season, will meet in a women's basketball game early next season in northwest Iowa, the schools announced Tuesday. The neutral-site game is set for Nov. 15 at the Tyson Events Center, which is 290 miles from Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City. Vanderbilt is 4-0 all-time against the Hawkeyes. This will be the teams' first meeting since 1997. The Commodores are expected to return national scoring leader Mikayla Blakes. She averaged 27 points per game and was Southeastern Conference player of the year. Vanderbilt was ranked as high as No. 5 and finished No. 10 with a 29-5 record after reaching the NCAA Sweet 16.
